Maroondah City Council recently consulted with the community about making Croydon Town Square a smoke-free environment.
Approximately 86% of people said Croydon Town Square should be smoke-free.
The consultation activities included two activations in central Croydon and an online survey that ran for nearly three weeks.
These activities elicited responses from a total of 700 participants, of whom 604 (86.3 percent) expressed support for Croydon Town Square becoming smoke-free when it opens later in 2018.

meeting on 26 November 2018, Council resolved to make Local Law No. 14 (General Amendment) pursuant to the provisions of the
Local Government Act 1989.
Local Law
No. 14 will come into operation on 1 January 2019.
This means that smoking will be banned in Ringwood Town
Square from 1 January 2019 and in Croydon Town Square once opened in March
2019.
Council will be working with the community to ensure people
are aware of the ban.
Those found smoking in these areas face a fine of $200 (2
penalty units).

Council is constructing a new Croydon Town Square, creating a new vibrant open space in the heart of Croydon.
Once completed, the project will provide great benefits to the area and will better connect Main Street to Croydon Station and Bus Interchange – building on the work of the recent Croydon Connects Project.
